I know Windows Life is made up of several programs, but here I am only talking about messenger. It has been in Beta for a bit, but I waited to try it as the release. I find it is only parshally accessible, but will be really nice when it gets completely so. I have posted many times on MSN or Windows Live messenger, so thought I'd post my thoughts. If you download it and don't like is simply restore your computer to the time before you did it. It is only available for folks with Vista and Windows 7. If anyone has had success with it please post the magic?

After updating to the latest live messenger, I finally decided to go back to Miranda. Now I can chat on facebook, Yim, Aim and MSN all from one program. Sure, it comes with it's own set of headaches, but I'm tired of struggling with live messenger. You never know from one message session to the next whether the alt number keys will read the conversation threads, even in the older one, so I just switched back to Miranda-im.

good choice! miranda is lodes better than that windows live messenger in my apinnion. no spywhere, no adding extra programs or anything, non oe of that! i've been using miranda for about 2 years now and haven't looked back

I tried it this morning and didn't find it very accessible.

Yahoo, Aim are completely accessible. Aim seems to always get it right, and the few times they miss you always can find the previous version. I like Windows live, but have to admit on new versions they require a few months to get right. Yahoo misses from time to time as well.miranda I don't much care for running open source programs, because their's always that chance someone gets on board and creates a plug in that gets ya.

miranda is accessible, but it does take quite a bit of configuring. yes, it's frustrating in the very beginning, but once it's done, it's done, and you can even put it on a thumb drive, so you can take it with you and have it on whatever computer you happen to log in to at the moment, with all your settings intact.

Agreed, maranda is the way to go. Once you get it customized to your wims, you'll find it 100 times better than all the other cliants for the most part.

hmmm. for me, this bloody miranda is behaving like a mean queen sleeping beside naked to me but actions are off.

I tried tried tried configuring that but no success yet. So I gave it up!

Yep, Live Messenger 2011 is varying degrees of broken depending on the screen reader you're using. Oddly enough, the best success I've had is either with JAWS 12 or NVDA--although the latter's going to want an app module written for it.

windows live 2011 showed up in my windows update, i just hid that update.. so it won't bother me anymore. i'm happy with windows live, what ever version i'm using.

If you can use 2011 share your magic then. It shows up in the updates, but if you do it, then go back it comes back, so you have to watch not to reinstall it. I believe, as usual the screen readers will catdfch up, or Microsoft will fix it. I also read that you could change it back to the regular view, so am thinking that might help screen reader users, but haven't had the time to check yet.

you can click hide update when it shows up, with windows vista and 7 what you do is have it checked and selected in teh list view, press applications and choose hide this update. it'll be unchecked, and won't be shown later unless you click show hidden updates. for xp, i'm not sure how to do it

Post 15 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 02-Nov-2010 21:39:13

It won't show up for XP. XP will not work with it or any of the new live programs, so it doesn't show up in the update process.

here is something I had to do though with windows live 2011 to keep the messenger from completely closing when I alt f4 out of the main windows. I put WLM in compatibility view for vista SP2 on my windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit machine and it works much better than it did previously!
ALso, when I installed I chose the option from the main WLM page that said hide expanded view or something to that affect and it helped with other issues. The biggest complaint I have is with multiple screen readers my message is repeated twice after I send it to someone!

I had this problem too with windows live not reading the contacts but after changing the view back to the older style :) it works.
